Evenings with Extraordinary Artists

November 29, 2017 at 6:30PM

Monroe House

The Evenings with Extraordinary Artists series will feature Julie Kent, the new artistic director of the Washington Ballet Wednesday, Nov.29, at 6:30 pm.

Kent retired from the stage last June after 29 years of dancing with the American Ballet Theater and became artistic director of ABT’s summer intensive programs held in five cities. In her new position with the Washington Ballet, Kent will oversee the 21-member company as well as the Washington School of Ballet and its community outreach programs. For the coming season, she is hoping to hire a few more ballerinas with a view to programming Frederick Aston’s serene 1946 ballet, “Symphonic Variations.” Elvi Moore, former general director of the Washington Ballet and founder of the Laurel Fund for the Performing Arts, will discuss Kent’s vision for the Ballet in the years ahead.

Doors open at 6:30 pm and the program will begin at 7 pm. A reception featuring wine and hors d’oeuvres will take place before and after the performance. Admission is $25.
